Shiatsu is a Japanese bodywork therapy based on the same principles as acupuncture, in which the practitioner uses manual and digital touch along meridian, or energy, lines to promote the body’s natural healing properties and helping to restore balance to the entire system. Each session is traditionally done on a comfortable mat on the floor, though it can be done on a massage table or in a chair, with the client wearing loose, comfortable clothing that allows for unrestricted movement of the limbs. Shiatsu can be deeply relaxing and beneficial for a variety of ailments, especially those where stress or emotional turbulence is an underlying factor.
