Meet Johnny Fontes: Q+A with a Chicago Massage Therapist

June 5, 2025 By Megan Thompson

Meet Johnny Fontes, a Chicago massage therapist practicing his craft at Division Chiropractic.

He’s not only a knowledgeable massage therapist but he’s also a wonderful, kind human.  Johnny brings incredible skill, compassion, and a true passion for helping people feel their best. He’s also a master at crafting juices.  His juice blends strike the perfect balance—flavorful, fresh, and full of feel-good vibes.

Johnny’s the star of this month’s In the Clinic and Beyond, so keep reading to learn more about what drives him.  And, as always, if you think of any questions we missed, drop us an email at schedule@divisionchiro.com and we’ll make sure to have those answers for you next time.

What’s your role at Division Chiropractic?

I’m a licensed massage therapist. I work with patients in need of relief from pain and stress.

What makes Division Chiropractic the best chiropractor in Chicago?

It’s the best because it’s the most relaxing chiropractor office I’ve been a part of in Chicago.  From the front desk team and   other massage therapists to the patients, it’s a very calming scene. I think the positive energy the chiropractors put out make   it a peaceful place.

What brings you the most joy at work?

I love it when a patient tells me how much relief they received from their massage session.

Reading, relaxing, and smelling life’s roses

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

I like to work out and read.

Do any of your hobbies ever make a positive impact on your life at work? If so, how?

Yes, working out keeps me in shape and allows me to have the strength to endure anything at work.  Reading allows me to go into a relaxed mode when I massage.  I can just drift and allow my mind to think; it really helps me focus on the patient’s needs.

Any good book(s) you’ve read recently?

Trading in the Zone.

Some of Johnny’s must-haves for spring self care

What does self-care look like for you during our spring season?

Self-care looks like getting a massage on a regular basis, juicing to release toxins, and eating high protein, fruits, and     vegetables.

If you had to make up a whole new astrological sign, what would your sign be called and     what would its most distinguishable trait be?

The Plus sign.  I believe that as life goes on I learn and gain from anything and anyone.  Those lessons are always a Plus.

If you could have one brand-new invention added to the office for both our patients and   coworkers to use, what would this invention be?

I’d say hot towel warmers because they’re beneficial in easing the body, and they feel really good.

Forget the rules of nature for a moment– which plant would you most like to see added into our office?

Roses because they are beautiful.

What’s one interesting thing about your role within the clinic that you wish more people knew?

I observe my patients every time they come in so I can track their progress. This is very important for therapists to do and it often goes under the radar.

Thank you, Johnny, for letting us get to know you a little better!

And now, dear audience, it’s your turn!  Any juice recipes you want to share with us?  Would you also like to see rose bushes all throughout our office?  It sounds wonderful, but as they say, every rose has its thorn— Then again, if you have a thorn in your side, you would have to look no further than Johnny because he’s a skilled practitioner that knows how to work out all manner of back and body aches.

Why sleep-focused breathwork is exploding in popul Why sleep-focused breathwork is exploding in popularity 😴💨

More people are turning to breathwork as a simple, science-backed way to calm the nervous system and improve sleep quality. Slow, intentional breathing helps shift the body out of “fight or flight” and into a parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) state — making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. Just a few minutes before bed can lower stress hormones, slow the heart rate, and signal to your brain that it’s time to rest. Sometimes the most powerful sleep tools don’t come in a bottle… they come from your breath. Try this video before bed to see if it changes your sleep

This simple seated breathing exercise helps calm your nervous system and prepare your body for rest. Sit comfortably and place your hands on the sides of your abdomen, breathing slowly into your hands so your ribs gently expand with each inhale. As you exhale, feel your body soften and release the tension of the day. Try this for 2–3 minutes before bed to signal safety, slow your mind, and support deeper, more restful sleep.
